John Lansdown

Prof. R John Lansdown (1929-1999) was a British architect, innovator of early Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) techniques in architectural design and planning, as well as a pioneer of computer use in graphics, animation and dance. He was one of the founders of the Computer Arts Society in 1968. Later he worked with George Mallen at System Simulation Limited. In 1988 he became Professor and head of the Centre for Computer Aided Art & Design at Middlesex University, then Dean of the Department of Art, Design and Performing Arts, then Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, and ultimately Professor Emeritus. The Lansdown Centre for Electronic Arts, named for him, played a significant role in the early development of computer graphics and was innovative in both research and teaching in interactive media, sonic arts and moving image.
